City Spectacular makes it's way down to Cork!

12 July, 2017

Ireland's biggest FREE summer festival, Laya Healthcare’s City Spectacular returns Cork’s Fitzgerald Park this weekend Saturday July 15th and Sunday 16th. The festival, which is celebrating its 9th year in Cork, runs daily from 12pm - 8pm and entry is entirely FREE of charge.  190,000 festival-goers enjoyed the Dublin leg of the much loved event last weekend and over 60,000 Corkonians are expected through the gates of Fitzgerald Park this weekend. Laya Healthcare’s City Spectacular will showcase the best in international street performance, interactive family activities, a pet wellness area with DSPCA and an international street food festival within the festival.

Fitzgerald Park's street performance line up will also include one of world’s only female magicians Billy Kidd, a 10ft unicyclist who balances a fishbowl on his head The Amazing Mr.Fish, breakdance trio straight from the Bronx USA Breakdancers and 25 time Guinness World Record holding Canadian brothers Monsters of Schlock. Their records include the most motorbikes driven over a man whilst lying on a bed of nails, the most mousetraps released on a tongue and the most 4 inch inserted into the nose in 30 you do! Meet performing partners Coney Island's freakshow frontman Donny Thomas and his girlfriend Hollywood's own Showgirl of the Sideshow Miss Frankie Sin. These daring darlings put on a show that includes everything from sword-swallowing and ventriloquism to burlesque and feats of brute strength extraordinaire.

Families will discover and delight in the spectacular as they explore Laya Healthcare’s Greatest Place on Earth, the family health, fitness and wellbeing area at the heart of the Cork festival. Children and their grown ups will enjoy free kid’s zumba, aerobics and yoga classes. Join Imaginosity, Ireland’s Children’s Museum for Dr.Osity’s live body science show...Ready Steady, Grow! A fully interactive children’s show focusing on the magic of the body and how it works…from top, to toe!

Build and create stories in Laya Healthcare’s Greatest Place on Earth with Imaginosity’s Imagination Playground. The Imagination Playground is the place where children can create and build a wonderland with larger-than-life-size spongy shapes. Whether it’s a maze or dream playhouse, the playground is the perfect place for the family to let their imagination run wild!

Just Eat Street - the international street food village within Laya Healthcare’s City Spectacular - is a feast of food, fun & entertainment running the length of the Rose Garden in Cork's Fitzgerald Park. Visitors are invited to devour over 15 different cuisines from around the world and chill in the sunshine with friends and family. The Just Eat Waiter Service takes and delivers food orders for festival-goers, bringing the best of Just Eat’s online ordering service to life at Laya Healthcare’s City Spectacular.

This year’s official charity partner is the Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) and Laya Healthcare’s City Spectacular is celebrating all things pets. PET-acular with the D.S.P.C.A & Purina comes for the first time to Cork’s Fitzgerald Park next weekend. The DSPCA will be on hand with Dog Training Advice and Dog Agility Demonstrations. The DSPCA Veterinary Hospital will also be microchipping for €15 so please bring photo ID and ultility bill with you if you wish to avail of this. Our friends at Purina will be on hand with a range of pet food & a photobooth to have your photo taken with Felix. It’s fun for ALL the family...including the 4-legged kind!

Laya healthcare will once again bring their ever-popular Kid’s Court to the family-loving festival, but this year it is even messier, meaner and more mischievous than ever! Children can put their parents on trial, who may be sentenced to a custard-pie-in-the-face or a bucket of iced water thrown as punishment.

Laya Healthcare’s City Spectacular takes place this weekend Saturday July 15th and Sunday July 16th in Cork’s Fitzgerald Park
